Buying in-game currency

What currency selling sites are

Currency sellers are platforms where you buy in-game money - gold, coins, gems, credits - for real money. Most online games have an internal economy, and farming currency takes time. These sites sell currency farmed or stockpiled by other players or suppliers, letting you skip the grind.

Games with active currency markets include OSRS, WoW, Final Fantasy XIV, Path of Exile, and many mobile titles. Each game has different rules about real-money trading, which directly affects the risk involved.

How delivery works

After you place an order and pay, the site needs to transfer the currency to your in-game character. The delivery method depends on the game:

Direct trade: You meet a seller's character in-game and they hand you the currency through the game's trade window. This is common in MMOs like OSRS and WoW.

In-game mail: The seller sends currency through the game's mail system. You pick it up from your mailbox. Some games delay mailed currency, which slows delivery.

Auction house: The seller lists a junk item on the auction house at an inflated price. You buy it, and the currency transfers through the game's own system. This method is harder for publishers to detect.

Account-to-account: For some games, the seller logs into a mule account and trades from there. You may need to provide a meeting point or server.

Most sites show an estimated delivery time - anywhere from a few minutes to several hours depending on the game, the amount ordered, and current stock levels.

Ban risk

This is the biggest concern with buying currency. Most game publishers prohibit real-money trading (RMT) in their terms of service. If detected, your account can be warned, temporarily suspended, or permanently banned.

Ban risk varies by game. Some publishers actively monitor and ban RMT buyers. Others rarely enforce their rules. The delivery method also matters - auction house methods are generally harder to detect than direct trades of large amounts.

No currency seller can guarantee zero ban risk. Any site that promises "100% safe" or "ban-free" is overstating what they can control. What they can control is using delivery methods that reduce detection likelihood.

No currency seller can guarantee zero ban risk. Enforcement intensity varies by publisher and game.

Activity Possible penalty
Buying currency from a third party Account suspension or ban; currency removal
Selling currency Permanent ban on seller account
Using bots or automation Permanent ban; hardware ID ban in some games

Penalties are at the publisher's discretion. Some issue warnings first, others enforce zero-tolerance policies.

What to check before you buy

Stock availability: Some sites show live stock levels. If a site lists currency for a game but has no stock, expect delays.

Delivery method: How the currency arrives depends on the game. Some methods require account credentials - this is a different service model with different implications.

Minimum and maximum order sizes: Some sellers set minimums. Large orders may be split across multiple deliveries to reduce detection risk.

Refund policy: Policies for failed or delayed deliveries vary by site.
